Songs that Make Life Better

Life could have been better if I did that instead of this – A thought which makes our lives useless the moment it dawns upon us. And yet, we cannot stop beating around the bush and burning every bridge whenever our lives take a tipsy turn. And so, here is the list of the songs that keep me unwind from the uncertainties of the world we live in:

  • Måneskin – I Wanna Be Your Slave: An upbeat song that keeps you on a hook with its rock beats and snappy lyrics. Fun Fact: Måneskin means ‘moonlight’ in Danish.

    • Ikimonogakari – Blue Bird: A Japanese song which got its fame after being the opening theme song for Anime Naruto Shippuden. The song’s widespread appeal demonstrates that despite our varied linguistic backgrounds, our hearts beat together when we enjoy quality music—which isn’t necessarily about understanding the words. Fun Fact: It played on Naruto Shippuden from Episode 54 until Episode 77. The bluebird represents the essence of beauty and life.

    • AC/DC – Back in Black: A classical tune from a very amazing rock band that performed many songs that made hearts beat to the sound of guitar strings all across the world. 15 AC/DC songs, including Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, War Machine, and others, were included in the Marvel Iron Man movies, which helped to increase their worldwide popularity. Fact: The song is a tribute to the lead singer Bon Scott, who died 5 months before its release.

    • Backstreet Boys – I Want It That Way: The hit song from the 90s pop boy band continues to be relevant and influential today. It’s entertaining and appealing to sing along to even if it makes no sense. Fact: The song was banned in China.

    • Disney’s The Lion King – Hakuna Matata: One of the most sing-along songs of Disney that is both fun and witty. It is all about having fun and living life to the fullest with no worries to boot. Fun Fact: The unique phrase Hakuna Matata is derived from the Swahili term and is repeated 25 times in the entire performance.

    • Taylor Swift – Today Was A Fairytale: Being a Swiftie myself, I had to include one of her songs on the list. I adore all of her songs, but this one has a particular place in my heart. It’s nice, romantic, and simply magical. Fun Fact: The song was released for the movie Valentine’s Day, in which she also starred.

    • Passengers – Let Her Go: The song’s nostalgic and beautiful lyrics discuss the regrets that come with calling it quits on a romance.  Fun fact: The song turned into a sleeper hit, topping the charts, and becoming successful internationally, and as of March 2024, it has received over 3.6 billion views.

    • Keane – Somewhere Only We Know: The song talks about a place we may go back to with someone and find everything to be precisely the same. Fun Fact: The song has been featured in numerous movies like He’s Just Not That Into You, LOL (2012) and TV shows like Glee, Cold Case, Grey’s Anatomy and more.

    • Dil Se – Chaiyya Chaiyya: The list is incomplete without a classic Bollywood song which makes you wanna sing and dance along. The song talks about walking in the shade of love. Fun Fact: The song appears in the opening scene of the movie Inside Man (2006), the musical Bombay Dreams and the TV shows Smith and CSI: Miami.

    • Spice Girls – Wannabe: One of the catchiest songs in the world that promotes fun and friendship. Fun Fact: The song was written in 30 minutes and Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) is the only band member who didn’t sing a single verse of the song.

    • Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine – Stereo Hearts: The song is about a man comparing his heart to an old-fashioned stereo, which is a type of radio. It is about handling love with care. Fun Fact: The Hip and Hop/Rap song was the biggest hit of Gym Class Heroes.

    • Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk: A Funk-pop song which upon release broke records and won Grammys. Fun Fact: To track down Mars, Ronson travelled around the United States extensively, which made it take more than six months to finish the song.

    There are more songs but these are the ones that make the heart yearn for more. Depending on your mood, the tunes make excellent sing-alongs. What are your favourite songs, do let me know.
